Local Heroes Update on Covid-19

Updated Tuesday, 12 May 2020

At Local Heroes, one of our main aims is to provide peace of mind to customers. With the ongoing coronavirus situation, we want everyone to stay safe when using Local Heroes.

Many of you will have questions regarding tradespeople entering your home and while we have laid out specific advice for both customers and Heroes below, above all it is most important to follow advice from the UK Government and Public Health England.

Need a job done? Local Heroes makes it easy to get jobs done around your home by matching you with skilled, vetted Local tradespeople.

During this unprecedented time you can still request a job within the trades of heating, gas, plumbing, drainage, appliances and electrical, and Heroes will be matched to your job. We understand that you simply can’t choose when your boiler is going to break down. However, we do want to keep everyone safe. If you are self isolating or exhibiting symptoms you should only book a job when there is a direct risk to the safety of your household. Please consider if you could book at a later date.

Remember that we may find fewer Heroes choosing to pick up jobs to protect themselves or their family, or they may only pick up jobs that are critical to your wellbeing. We’ve put together some things to remember - things that will help you when you book a job through Local Heroes:

Heroes are happy to help

They don’t want you left without a tradesperson when you need one. However, don’t take any unnecessary risks, use our online messaging tool to chat to your Hero and make sure you both feel comfortable before the visit.

Be kind

Let the Hero know if you are self-isolating, their next job may be with a vulnerable person or they may have elderly relatives at home.

It’s not antisocial to distance yourself

The Government has asked everyone to avoid unnecessary contact with other people. Keep a safe distance from each other when the Hero is in your home and follow the government guidelines.

You’re in control

If you start feeling unwell or are worried about having a Hero in your home you can cancel at any time, there’s no charge.

Similar to customers, tradespeople are right to have concerns about entering people’s homes.

Our thoughts are with you, your employees, families and friends. This is a difficult and unprecedented time we find ourselves in. Our primary concern is that you remain safe.

Provided you are well and have no symptoms you can continue to pick up jobs, if you have any symptoms however mild you should not be carrying out work. We we urge you to take every precaution when out on the job and know that you can be flexible with Local Heroes work. We’re asking customers to tell us if they are isolating or have symptoms.

Customers will still be able to request jobs through Local Heroes, as there will be situations where customers truly need a skilled tradesperson to help them.

We’ve put together some things to remember when doing a job through Local Heroes:

Keep communicating to customers

Use Local Heroes Messaging to ask questions and get all the information you need to feel confident before visiting a customer, don’t take any unnecessary risks.

Take care

Your next job may be with a vulnerable person or you may have an elderly relative at home. If your customer is self-isolating consider the situation and look after yourself and others. Follow Public Health England advice on protecting yourself and others.

It’s not antisocial to distance yourself

The Government has asked everyone to maintain social distancing. If you are doing a job at this time keep a safe distance from your customer and follow the government guidelines. We recommend you bring your own refreshments.

You’re in control

If you start feeling unwell or are worried about a customer, you can cancel at any time or give the job to another Hero from Toolbox.
