The kitchen is the heart of most homes and needs a constant supply of water to make it function properly and an issue with the kitchen plumbing can affect everyone in the house, from that first cup of coffee in the morning to washing the kids clothes and making the evening meal.
Here’s some top tips to keep your kitchen in shape.
Prevent blocked drains
Blocked drains are common, but there are a few things you can do to prevent them from happening in the first place. Every week, boil a full kettle of water and pour the contents slowly down the drain to help dislodge any build up. It’s also a good idea to rinse all plughole stoppers to remove any dirt and grime that could end up down the sink.
Dispose of kitchen grease
Kitchen grease is a common cause of blocked kitchen drains. Grease and fat builds up in your pipes, trapping pieces of food and causing blockages or costly leaks. To avoid these problems, pour fat and grease into a jar or bottle and put it in the bin instead.
The kitchen is usually associated with fantastic smells of home cooking, but plumbing problems can create less than delicious odours. If a smell is coming from your sink, try giving the sink holes a good clean first. If this doesn’t stop the smell, you could try pouring a small amount of bleach down the sink to clear the blockage. Allow the bleach to sit for as long you can before running the taps. When using household chemicals such as bleach, always read the label first.
