Announcing Communities @ Local Heroes

Posted on 4/30/2020

Over the past few weeks the lockdown has caused numerous problems and issues, but it has also seen a coming together of the whole country. Whether it’s clapping for the NHS every Thursday at 8pm or volunteering to help people who can’t make it to the shops regularly, the community spirit has been nothing short of amazing.

Community groups have sprung up in many places to go food shopping or collect prescriptions, or simply to help people pass the time. However, many requests and offers for help have gone unconnected, leaving people unable to take advantage of the support available in their community, and others unable to help where they’re willing.

As Local Heroes connects people with tradespeople, we realised our service could be put to important use during this difficult time. It was a problem we wanted to solve.

Our regular business is connecting people who need help with those who can provide it. We realised by adapting our service we could put our skills and resources to important use during this difficult time. Our existing technologies, and some new ones, can be used to connect those who need help with those who can help.

"It's important right now that as many of us as possible do what we can to help. We wanted to contribute as a company."

Camilla Benitz, head of Local Heroes

Today we’re announcing Communities @ Local Heroes, a free service for local communities to help each other during this difficult time.

Communities @ Local Heroes makes it easier for people to ask for or give help, while also allowing people to be flexible in the time they have to support the local area. It can mean making essential trips count for more than one household, allowing a shielded person to stay home or simply helping someone feel less alone.

It is not a way for us, or anyone else, to make money.

When you ask for help you’re helping to build your local community. If you’ve got a task that needs doing simply let your local community know, or you can start doing local tasks by completing your profile. Those who can help can view tasks that are within walking distance and reach out to people who need help locally online.

Communities @ Local Heroes is a service free to use for all. It is not a way for Local Heroes, or anyone else, to make money.

Camilla Benitz, head of Local Heroes says “It’s important right now that as many of us as possible do what we can to help. While many of our team are helping out in their local communities, we wanted to contribute as a company too.”

“We hope Communities @ Local Heroes can help make those connections in our communities even stronger.”

You can sign up to Communities @ Local Heroes, whether you would like to request help or to offer help in your community using your Facebook or Google log ins here.
