Simple to apply

Click 'Join now' to register for a Toolbox account. Once in the Onboarding Center we’ll ask you to fill some general information about your company along with more specific details related to your trades.

Check out the specific qualifications and experience required for your trade.

Appliance Engineer

Recognised and relevant qualifications required. Proof of being a preferred brand repairer.

We'll also need to see:

Your public liability schedule or certificates

Your employers’ liability schedule or certificates (if you have employees)

Reviews of previous work showing your experience (web links are accepted)

Your profile picture

Your DBS check (this isn’t essential)

Your proof of bank account (statement, letter or screenshot)

We also ask for some specific qualifications and experience

We thoroughly vet all applicants and continually review our Heroes. All Heroes work safely and to the highest standards

How do I join?

Create an account, then give us a few details about your business to start the onboarding process.

Do I need to wear Local Heroes or British Gas branded clothing?

Absolutely not. As long as you’re dressed safely for the job, you’re good to go.

Are there minimum job targets?

No, we don’t have any targets. You can use Local Heroes to simply fill spare slots in your diary, or to grow your business - it’s up to you. We simply connect you with customers who need jobs doing in their homes.

What does it cost?

We take a fee for helping you find new jobs to help us:

Support you over the phone should anything go wrong with advice from our industry experts

Continually improve our platform to make it a better for Heroes and customers

Payments are automatically chased for up to 28 days- helping make sure you receive your money

Fees vary depending on the value of the job: We charge customers a 20% commission for jobs worth up to £499. For jobs worth £500 - £999 we charge customers a flat commission of £100. For jobs worth over £1000 we charge customers a flat commission of £150.

How are jobs allocated?

We use some clever tech to offer jobs to all Heroes in the area, and we factor in who has waited the longest.

How do you notify me of jobs?

We send you notifications by text and by email when a job is available in your area. Once you’ve picked the job, we send you the customer’s details so you can contact them to arrange it.

How do I see and manage my jobs?

We’ve got a nifty app, Toolbox, where you can see which jobs you’ve completed and what you have booked in. You’ll be sent a link to download it when you join us.

Why was my application declined?

We make sure Heroes are up to tip top standard, and as such have some requirements to become a Hero. Because of these, we do have to decline applications from time to time, but we should always be in touch to explain why.

Can I apply again if my application has been declined?

Yes, you can apply again if you now meet our requirements. We can’t guarantee you’ll be accepted.
